what about it??

So You think you have talent!

For some of us thats a part of our EGO, up until the day when you realise that Your so called talent with ease can be conquered and totaly destroid by a REAL talent. Either way you keep going on in hope that one day, people will see You and admire what You have done.

 Willie Nelson still among us.

Is it all about talent or is it something completly different that is a part of us all. How do we judge talent? The artist playing for an audience of 30000 people, the scientist who found the way to solve the problem with HIV, the man who climbed Mount Everest or the woman who sailed the globe alone!!

As this blog is supposed to be about music I stay there. Was the Beatles members talents? Or was they as a group talents. What about Elvis Presley, Madonna, Beach Boys, Lady Gaga, Supreemes? just to mention a few.

The first every rock´n roll idol
the Kng himself-Elvis Presley

Sir Paul McCartney in session.
maybe its Blue Suede Shoes.

Les Paul & Chet Atkins.
maybe those guys that made you start playing the guitar.

Lady Gaga

At the age of 62 I do realise that we all have some kind of talent. Even if we dont become millionares doing what we love. How does talent affect You? At the same time as I write this more and more questions pop´s up in my head.

Where did it all go wrong, why didnt I become famous for my talents? well I never know and in regards of my Music, all those tunes I written in my life. Will they be popular perhaps as with the old guys after I passed away!

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,
rock star of his time.

Its summer, weather is warm, a kitten does what ever she can to make me play with her. Do I know what talent is? Can I spot a talent? Using a huge part of my life to become one and fail´d I still think I know how to spot a talent.

A couple of the former members of my "pbp-band" have shown real talent.
Roger was a great Drummer, playing with at least 5 different bands in different styles. He actually did have complete drumkits placed at different rehersal rooms-bands. One saturday morning He didnt show up for rehersal, a few hours later I called his mother and asked about him.

-I dont know what to do with all his things, she said. Drums evereywhere, his old car and everything else. They called him on friday telling him to take a flight to USA. He was to be a part of a big C&W music tour in US. As far as I know, more the 15 years later, He is still a performer with talent in the US.

Peters talent was possibly not seen in the right way by others, so instead of playing bass and building extremly good bass-guitars He made his talent known in a completly different way, by killing people. Now He is Famous and front page on every newspaper.

When Van arrived to an evening guitarschool with his by then 12-13 year old daughter asking me to teach her to play the  guitar, at least I didnt see her talent. A couple of years later She did form her first all rock band, performing her very own songs.

Today She is one of the big talents in Canada, (best import since ABBA acc Canadian papers) and by the way  also in europe performing almost everywhere with Her guitar and Her  amazing songs. Her biggest performance so far was at the 1 of July festivites at Trafalgar Square-London Canada Day, in front of an audience of no less the 70000 people.
She do have TALENT!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully we will get a chanse to see her perform in Stockholm in december at Södra Teatern. Dont miss that opportunity.

Not long after I started to teach Sarah to play the guitar I met with the talented
Mirella Pirskanen. An extremly talented Violin player born in Finland. She and her violin has travelled the world performing and is at this moment enjoying beeing parents with Hans her companion and their baby in Neatherlands.

To listen to her playing, watching her perform on stage is like a happening. you´ll never know what will happen.

At the age of 21 Martin became a member of my band. He dont know it yet, but God knows that He´s got talent. His fingers caressing the massive bass-strings on his Bass-guitar or the Standup bass. making them both sound heavenly, with a bit of luck He is an upcoming star on the music heaven.

What about my own talent, well I´m still working at it. Every now and then a new line of lyrics pop´s into my mind and becomes a tune. up until now more then 500 different songs have been written. 90% of em beeing real shit, but maybe the rest is fair.

A borrowed new 12-string guitar made me start writing a song about my freind Richard in UK. Telling a small part of the story of his life, and his talent. By the way among all things he is also a great bassplayer.

(the recording is a demo version only)

The song as such is telling us all How little We do know. At daytime He works possibly in suit and tie in the central of London, and on his sparetime he may show up as a cool biker on an old motorbike, or be dressed up as a sexy woman at a party. Does he got Talent? Yes theres no doubt about that, He also got the stamina to do the things he want in life. A truly talented man.

Sound, now and then

 1972 HiFi system

Back in the 60-ies the stereosound was developed to its full extend.

Sonab REcordplayer

Record players and their pickups became state of the art tools for transforming the sound of a record into HiFi music sound.

AKAI M9 taperecorder from the late 60-ies.

Reel to reel taperecorders became standard giving the same quality as the records.

SONAB casett recorder

Unfortinutly those RR taperecorders was somehow a problem for the average customer, instead we did get the casettape and their recording equipment. With a soundquality far lower then the RR recorders.

In the mid 60-ies even the Beatles recorded the Sgt Pepper using a simple 4-track reel to reel recorder.

TEAC 4-track reel to reel recorder 70-ies

In hope to get my songs sound a bit like from the 60ies I went out in hope to find a second hand old taperecorder.  It soon proved to be easy and after a bidding on Swedish ebay-Tradera I became the new owner of a 1969 Sony TC230 taperecorder.

1969 SONY TC230 reel to reel recorder.

Bringing it home I gave the old recorder a proper service and found a tape. It showed no traces of its age and the sound quality was exellent. Making a master recording from the Audacity computer program made the digital sound into a new dimension.

With only one tape to go We went to a fleamarket today where I found at the cost of 4,oo£ , 10pi of 7" tapereels. Took em home and soon the room was filled with music recorded more the  30 years ago!! Still with an exellent sound quality. To be compared with a load of CD records less then 5 years old that alread seam to have lost their information and therefor is impossible to listen to.

News tells that the grammophone industri once again is making old vinyl LP records, possibly caused by the fact that more then 30 year old records still can be played and enjoyed with perfect sound quality.

As far as I do understand the analog sound systems still is very much alive.
